The WTA250 tennis tournament returns to Cluj in October

Transylvania Open WTA250 will take place on October 8-16, 2022. After a successful first edition organized in 2021, this tournament earned its place in the official calendar of the Women’s Tennis Association and has all the chances to become a traditional competition. The matches will be played indoors, on hard surface, in the BT Arena, and the competition will start with two days of qualifications.

“Cluj-Napoca was, last year, the only city in Europe with two WTA tournaments: Winners Open and Transylvania Open. Both were very successful competitions. We received a lot of appreciation from the WTA officials and we will continue to invest in out second project, Transylvania Open. It is a tournament that is sure to become a tradition and one that has every chance of growing. This year we will have a another strong indoor competition, with top players and with high stakes”, Patrick Ciorcilă, director of the Transylvania Open tournament.

The first edition of Transylvania Open meant a tennis tournament with surprising matches, which gathered in Cluj top 100 world champions and two Grand Slam winners: Simona Halep and Emma Răducanu. The stakes were huge: the last place in the Tournament of Champions was decided in Cluj an it was won by the one who obtained the Transylvania Open trophy: Anett Kontaveit. The matches were played indoors, on hard, in the BT Arena, on the two playing fields.

32 singles players and 16 doubles teams will compete at Transylvania Open WTA250 tournament in October 2022. Up for grabs will be 280 WTA points and $275,000 worth of prizes.
