Anna Blinkova is the new champion at Transylvania Open, after a three-set victory over Italian Jasmine Paolini. It ended 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 for Blinkova, who won 7 consecutive matches in Cluj and ousted three tournament seeds: Lesia Tsurenko, Anhelina Kalinina and Anastasia Potapova.
This is Blinkova’s first WTA title so far. Her success comes at a time when Anna is trying to get back into the rankings after an injury-plagued 2021 season.
As for Jasmine Paolini, the runner-up in Cluj, she will return home with some great victories: she defeated Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska, Jule Niemeier and Xiyu Wang – great players, about whom we will hear and write more.
A special tournament like Transylvania Open has, after all, a winner with a special story: a former exceptional junior (Wimbledon finalist, former World No. 3) wins her first WTA title at the age of 24, coming from the qualifiers, and after a turbulent period, with many injuries.
